Teaching Sustainable Agriculture

One of the key parts of Cultiva Green is to create a space of constant learning, especially for the kids. We want to encourage them to learn more about their land and what they can produce with the tools we give them. The idea is to teach people how to grow and market their own food in a way that can be sustained for the long term.

In the first stage of the project we ensured people in the community of Cunucyacu were producing enough food to feed themselves. We have since built 8 green houses that are producing enough vegetables to both live on and start marketing locally, along with other products that the community produces. Here we constantly encourage the community members to get involved with the project’s vision and share that knowledge with each other. To us, it’s about loving the environment that the project creates in the community.

For the second stage, we expect the community to be able to sell their products to the city. Because the resources they have are limited, we are creating a space, called FarmSpace, for them to sell their fresh products online. To accomplish this we are working with local initiatives to give the people a fair share of the profits. We will teach them how to sell their products and avoid expensive intermediaries.

Finally, we expect to have created a culture of fair shares, better quality of life, no chronic malnutrition, and kids with more desire to be more involved with their community and their land. This is a project focused on helping kids and creating a better future for them. We want the kids to see and believe in greater opportunities awaiting them.
